Airbus Helicopters has introduced Africa’s first H125 virtual reality (VR) simulator for pilot training at its Southern Africa training facility in Midrand, Johannesburg. The simulator, developed by Loft Dynamics in cooperation with Airbus Helicopters, is part of a broader initiative to improve flight safety and address the pilot shortage through next-generation training technologies.

Located at Airbus Helicopters’ Training Academy in South Africa, the H125 VR simulator replicates the flight behaviour of a real Airbus helicopter. The simulator includes a 3D visual system, a dynamic motion platform, and realistic flight performance, and has been validated by Airbus Helicopters factory instructors and test pilots. It carries the “Airbus approved training device” seal, supporting license and operator proficiency checks.
The Midrand-based simulator will provide regional operators with access to type rating and refresher training. This simulator complements the range of training assets across Airbus’ global network and supports the expansion roadmap of the company’s VR-based training capabilities.
The system has already been deployed in various international markets and reflects Airbus Helicopters’ broader strategy to enhance training accessibility and safety standards across key regions.
