Issued by the AIC 18.19 Task Team under the auspices of CAASA, the Aeroclub of South Africa, the Aviation Watch Action Committee, the Aviation Action Group, and Concerned Aircraft Owners, Pilots, Engineers and Operators.
The AIC 18.19 Task Team held a final virtual meeting with Minister Barbara Creecy on 26 June 2025 to address issues related to the engine ruling. A formal submission and draft urgent-interdict application were provided by the extended deadline of 28 June, with the understanding that filing would be withheld if SACAA showed willingness to amend the regulation.
No response was received by the agreed deadline of 1 July 2025. As a result, the Task Team filed its amended urgent-interdict application on 9 July. Only after this did SACAA convene an industry forum and initiate legal correspondence. SACAA also requested a separate meeting with AeCSA, which was declined in favour of the multi-party process.
The Task Team reaffirmed the longstanding safety and reliability of the AIC 18.19 framework, which has been in use for 19 years. Its integration into Part 43 is proposed to maintain consistent, cost-effective airworthiness oversight. The lack of consultation and data from SACAA is seen as a serious risk to general aviation.
The court date for the interdict is pending. A progress virtual meeting will take place on 16 July 2025 at 9am. Stakeholders are encouraged to get involved via their respective organisations.
