Air Congo Receives Boeing 737-800 As DRC Advances Regional Aviation Hub Strategy

Air Congo receives a Boeing 737-800 in Kinshasa as the DRC advances plans to position itself as a regional aviation hub with new African routes.

At N’djili International Airport in Kinshasa on 19 February 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Jean-Pierre Bemba, attended the reception ceremony of a Boeing 737-800 acquired for the national carrier Air Congo.

He was joined by Director General Mesfin Biru Weldegeorgis, the representative of the Minister of Portfolio, Julie Mbuyi Shiku, and members of the Board of Directors.

The addition of the Boeing 737-800 forms part of the vision of President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to position the Democratic Republic of Congo as a regional aviation hub. The strategy includes the planned launch of new regional routes linking Kinshasa with Johannesburg, Cotonou, Douala, Entebbe, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Lagos.
