Angola and Hungary have strengthened their bilateral ties with the signing of a new Air Services Agreement, formalised during an official meeting in Budapest between Angola’s Minister of Transport and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The agreement marks a key milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two nations, coinciding with Angola’s 50th anniversary of national independence and diplomatic relations with Hungary.
The signing follows a series of high-level institutional and business meetings held over two days, aimed at boosting economic and technological collaboration. Central to the discussions was Angola’s continued focus on expanding its transport and logistics sectors—critical components of the country’s long-term economic diversification strategy.
The Angolan delegation engaged with several Hungarian companies operating in infrastructure development and air traffic management. These included:
- A-Híd, a major player in bridge, road, and urban infrastructure construction
- Hungaro Control, Hungary’s air traffic management authority for both Hungary and Kosovo, where discussions centred around digitalisation, innovation, and operational efficiency in civil aviation
- ANY Biztonsági Nyomda, a security printing company active in over 50 countries and Angola’s technological partner in producing electronic passports
The cooperation with Hungaro Control is particularly significant as Angola seeks to modernise its aviation sector, prioritising safety, digital transformation, and international integration.
In a symbolic gesture, the Minister of Transport noted the natural connection between Angola and Hungary through the red-footed falcon, a migratory bird that travels annually between Angola’s Huambo province and Hungary. This reference highlighted shared environmental interests and the potential for collaborative efforts in biodiversity conservation.
This renewed partnership between Angola and Hungary reflects a mutual commitment to deepening economic, technological, and environmental cooperation, setting the stage for long-term collaboration in civil aviation and infrastructure development.
