Angolan Ministry of Transport and Boeing Sign Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation to Strengthen Angola’s Aviation Sector

  • The Angolan Ministry of Transport and Boeing have signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation to accelerate aviation development in Angola, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and national competitiveness.
  • The agreement establishes targeted collaboration with TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola to modernise its fleet, enhance technical and maintenance capabilities, and expand its network across regional and global markets.
  • Aviation is identified as a key pillar in Angola’s broader economic strategy, with this partnership supporting growth in tourism, investment, and regional connectivity.
  • Boeing will support TAAG in implementing digital tools to optimise operations, route planning, and customer service, enhancing overall efficiency in a rapidly evolving aviation landscape.
  • With over 75 years of experience in Africa and 70% of the continent’s commercial fleet made up of Boeing aircraft, the partnership underscores a long-term vision to position Angola as a leading aviation hub in the region.

The Angolan Ministry of Transport has signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation with Boeing, marking a significant milestone in Angola’s efforts to develop a sustainable and modern aviation sector. The agreement was signed during the Paris Air Show and is part of a broader initiative involving TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, the country’s national carrier.

This strategic memorandum establishes a framework for collaboration between Boeing and TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, with the aim of accelerating the modernisation and competitiveness of the Angolan aviation industry. The Republic of Angola considers aviation as one of the essential pillars of its national economic diversification agenda, with direct implications for tourism, investment and regional connectivity.

“TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, the national airline, has been a cornerstone of the African aviation landscape since its founding in 1938. As we navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing global market, it is essential that the airline not only maintains its competitive edge, but also embraces innovation and modernisation,” said Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Angola’s Minister of Transport.

He added: “This partnership with Boeing represents an important step in our commitment to strengthening our operational capabilities, improving our technical and maintenance capabilities, and expanding our reach. By investing in modern technologies and practices, we aim to position TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola as a leading airline in Africa, capable of meeting the demands of today’s travellers and, at the same time, contributing to Angola’s economic diversification and growth. Together with the significant investment in our new international airport – Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport – we are laying the foundations for a prosperous and sustainable future for the national aviation sector.”

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice-president of Commercial Aviation Sales and Marketing, said: “This partnership reaffirms Boeing’s commitment to supporting the growth of the aviation sector in Angola and the continued expansion of TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola’s capabilities.” He added: “We look forward to continuing more than 75 years of supporting commercial aviation in Africa.”

The memorandum defines several strategic areas of collaboration between Boeing and TAAG, including initiatives to increase operational efficiency through digital transformation, strengthen technical and maintenance capabilities, optimise and expand route networks and markets, and support the modernisation and growth of the national fleet.

This cooperation is also in line with the Ministry’s commitment to foster capacity building and innovation in the air transport sector in Angola, while ensuring strong international partnerships that benefit the country’s long-term development objectives.

With more than 75 years of experience supporting commercial aviation in Africa, Boeing brings a wealth of global expertise to this partnership. Currently, approximately 70 per cent of Africa’s commercial fleet is comprised of Boeing aircraft, operated by more than 60 airlines. According to the Boeing Commercial Market Outlook, Africa will need more than 1,000 new aeroplanes over the next two decades to meet growing demand.

This collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola and Boeing demonstrates Angola’s determination to assume a leadership role in the regional and global aviation landscape.
