A media statement issued by Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) notes that ATNS and its Chief Executive Officer, Ms Nozipho Mdawe, have mutually agreed to end their working relationship. Ms Mdawe’s departure, effective 31 October 2025, comes ahead of the expiry of her five-year contract.
According to ATNS Chairperson, Mr Zola Majavu, the decision follows a confidential agreement and marks a mutual desire for a fresh start. Ms Mdawe, who served as CEO for three years, was on precautionary leave since March 2025 while an independent investigation was conducted into the challenges facing South Africa’s aviation sector. The investigation cleared her of any wrongdoing or misconduct.
Mr Majavu thanked Ms Mdawe for her service and professionalism, while Ms Mdawe expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead ATNS and wished the organisation success in its future endeavours.
ATNS confirmed that both parties consider the matter closed and will not make further comments. The organisation’s immediate priorities include stabilising operations and initiating the process to appoint a new CEO.
ATNS is a state-owned entity under South Africa’s Department of Transport, responsible for providing air traffic navigation and management services.
