Botswana Air Access Welcomes New South African Airways Service Connecting Johannesburg and Gaborone

Botswana Air Access has welcomed the announcement by South African Airways (SAA) of a new double daily non-stop service connecting Johannesburg to Gaborone, set to launch on 04 November 2025. The new route represents a significant milestone in advancing regional connectivity and strengthening aviation and economic ties between Botswana and South Africa.

Johannesburg is Botswana’s largest international market based on two-way international origin-destination passengers, with an estimated 270,000 travellers in 2024, reflecting a 7% increase compared to 2023. The launch of this new SAA service is expected to further support and expand this corridor, benefiting both countries economically and logistically.

As spokesperson for Botswana Air Access, Dr Bao Mosinyi, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, underlined that the new service reflects SAA’s commitment to expanding its regional footprint. He highlighted the importance of reliable, direct connections between the two capital cities for unlocking economic potential and creating opportunities for both countries. He confirmed that Botswana Air Access will work closely with SAA and its partners to support the success and sustainability of the route.

Botswana Air Access reaffirmed its commitment to supporting carriers that enhance Botswana’s accessibility and competitiveness in the global aviation landscape.
