During the recent African Aviation Summit in Kigali, the Commercial Aviation Association of South Africa (CAASA) and the African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA) re-signed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aligning it under AfBAA’s new leadership. The original MoU was signed in May 2024.
The MoU recognises each organisation’s influence and provides a platform to align on safety, security, and joint advocacy for the mutual benefit of their members. It also establishes a framework for joint engagement with regulatory and civil aviation authorities on specific regional and national issues.
As one of AfBAA’s key pillars, communication between the associations will be strengthened to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, intelligence, and industry trends.
“Business aviation does not operate in isolation, and by working closely with established agencies, we can all contribute to raising aviation standards across the continent,” said Dawit Lemma, AfBAA Chairman. “We are excited to see where this co-operation leads and anticipate that the outcomes will enhance business aviation as we optimise each other’s strengths.”
Kevin Storie, CEO of CAASA: “General and commercial aviation are rapidly expanding across Africa and around the world, and business aviation stands at the centre of this growth on the continent. By working hand in hand with established agencies and partners, we can raise the bar on safety, efficiency, and sustainability. With the support of Africa’s regulators and leaders, we have the opportunity to unlock the skies, cut through bureaucracy, and make connectivity simpler, faster and more effective for all.”
