Cape Verde takes another step in creating the conditions to become an international logistics hub, anchored to the Sal Airport hub. The new operation represents an important milestone in the country’s strategic positioning in the Mid-Atlantic, paving the way for the development of a goods redistribution platform from Sal Island, with the potential to serve markets in West Africa, Europe and the Americas.
This initiative aligns with the Government’s vision of transforming Sal Island into an International Logistics Centre, anchored to the air hub and integrated into the Sal Special Economic Zone project. The aim is to leverage Cape Verde’s privileged strategic location between Africa, Europe and America, strengthen the country’s competitiveness, and attract international investment in the transport and logistics sector.
Within this strategy, a public tender has already been launched for the preparation of the technical study that will define the development model for the Sal Special Economic Zone. The study is financed by the World Bank and is currently in the selection phase for the best candidate, constituting a crucial step for the realisation of this structuring project.
The connection provided by LATAM Cargo thus emerges as a concrete sign of the growing interest of international operators in the logistical potential of Cape Verde, and could act as a catalyst for new routes, investments and strategic partnerships.
With this step, Cape Verde reinforces its commitment to economic diversification, infrastructure improvement, and establishing the country as a global connectivity and business platform.
