The European Space Agency (ESA) has published an Intent Notice (1-12925 — Activity Number: 1000043594) calling for proposals to implement the Continental Innovation component of the Africa–EU Space Partnership Programme (AESPP). Funded by DG INTPA under the Global Gateway initiative, this tender will support activities scheduled for the first phase of the programme (2025–2028).
The aim of the Continental Innovation component is to strengthen Africa’s space-focused private sector and promote industrial cooperation between Europe and Africa. A key element of this initiative is the development of a capacity-building programme specifically tailored to support the Earth Observation (EO) private sector in Africa.
Key Objectives
The “Continental Innovation” project will implement the African Private Sector Cooperation component of the AESPP. The main activities outlined in the tender include:
- EO-Focused Training: Programmes designed to equip young African entrepreneurs and researchers with the skills to develop EO applications and services for the private sector.
- Support for Start-up Development: The design and delivery of mentoring and business innovation programmes to assist Africa-based start-ups.
- European–African Matchmaking Events: Organising continental-level events to connect EO innovators, industry stakeholders, and private investors from Europe and Africa.
