Ethiopia and Uganda Sign Eight Bilateral Agreements — Three Focused on Aviation Cooperation

Ethiopia and Uganda signed eight bilateral cooperation agreements during the 4th Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission held in Addis Ababa on 4 April 2025. The deals span key sectors, including aviation, trade, energy, agriculture, water resources, and industrial cooperation. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and implementing the agreements to advance mutual interests in regional security, economic integration, and development.

The eight signed MoUs include:

  1. Bilateral Air Services Agreement
  2. Industrial Cooperation
  3. Energy Sector Cooperation
  4. Water Resource Management
  5. Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries
  6. Aviation Training
  7. Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation
  8. Trade Cooperation

The Delegation of the Republic of Uganda was led by Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by:

  • Hon. Francis Mwebesa, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives
  • Hon. Fred Byamukama, Minister of State for Transport
  • Hon. Bwino Kyakulaga, Minister of State for Agriculture
  • Hon. Gen. David Rubakuba Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs

The Delegation of Ethiopia was led by H.E. Dr. Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, accompanied by:

  • H.E. Dr. Kassahun Gofe, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration
  • H.E. Mr. Getachew Menegste, along with other sectoral ministers, CEOs, and institutional representatives.
