ICAO’s Feasibility Study on Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Ethiopia examines the country’s potential to produce and deploy SAF across multiple pathways. The report identifies promising feedstocks such as Brassica carinata, molasses, municipal solid waste and, in the longer term, electricity-based fuels. It highlights Ethiopia’s strong agricultural base and renewable energy potential, while noting constraints including supply-chain gaps, competing feedstock uses and higher production costs. The study outlines a coordinated action plan covering feedstock development, technology deployment, infrastructure, policy and financing to support the country’s long-term SAF ambitions.
