- First African installation of the FlightLine ADS-B-based aircraft surveillance system
- Part of a wider SSASS-led campaign to roll out FlightLine across African airports, following its success in major U.S. airports under the FAA’s Surface Awareness Initiative
- System delivers real-time, precise tracking of manned and unmanned aircraft on and around airports, with rapid deployment and minimal disruption
In a landmark achievement for African aviation, SSASS Holdings, the strategic African partner of uAvionix Corporation, has successfully completed the first installation of the FlightLine air traffic surveillance system at Lanseria International Airport, located north west of Johannesburg. The deployment marks the beginning of a new era of cost-effective, high-performance ADS-B-based situational awareness for airports across the African continent.
This installation is part of a broader campaign led by SSASS Holdings to implement FlightLine, uAvionix’s revolutionary aircraft surveillance system, across African airports — mirroring its recent expansion at major U.S. airports under the FAA’s Surface Awareness Initiative.
FlightLine provides precise, real-time surveillance of aircraft movements on and around the airport using ADS-B technology. Designed for rapid deployment, the solution offers airports a scalable and minimally disruptive pathway to enhance safety, efficiency, and visibility into both manned and unmanned aircraft operations.

“The installation of FlightLine at Lanseria International Airport is more than just a technical milestone—it’s a signal that Africa is ready to lead in deploying modern, data-driven safety systems,” said Cyriel Kronenburg, Vice President of Aviation Networks & UAS at uAvionix Corporation. “We are proud to see our vision for globally connected airspace come to life here, in partnership with SSASS Holdings.”
This deployment comes on the heels of uAvionix’s recent success in the United States, where the company—alongside partner Capital Sciences—was awarded contracts to deliver FlightLine at 14 additional major airports, including Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando Sanford, Daytona Beach, Miami Executive and Palm Beach International Airports.
“FlightLine is changing the game for how airports approach safety and efficiency,” added Christian Ramsey, Chief Commercial Officer at uAvionix. “The system is lightweight, quickly installed, and provides real-time insights that help airports keep pace with the future of integrated air traffic, including drones. Lanseria’s leadership in this regard sets the stage for transformation across Africa.”
Dean Polley, CEO of SSASS Holdings, emphasised the broader implications: “This achievement places South Africa at the forefront of aviation safety innovation on the continent. We believe that FlightLine, with its scalable and affordable architecture, can redefine how regional and international airports in Africa manage increasing air traffic volumes—especially as drones become part of our everyday skies.”

Lanseria International Airport, already recognised for its operational excellence and strategic importance, welcomes the deployment as a step toward even greater capabilities.
“Lanseria has always been committed to adopting progressive technologies that improve our operations,” said Rampa Rammopo, CEO of Lanseria International Airport. “The FlightLine installation is an important investment in the future. It aligns perfectly with our mission to offer world-class safety standards and supports our vision of being a smart, connected airport.”
With this installation, South Africa becomes the first country in Africa to implement this next-generation air traffic surveillance solution, reinforcing its position as a continental leader in aviation innovation.
