The Government of Liberia, in partnership with the European Union, recently hosted the inaugural Liberia–EU Business Forum in Brussels on 24 and 25 February 2026 under the theme “The ARTS in the ARREST – Invest in Liberia 2026.”
Representing the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), Deputy Director General for Administration Hon. Stephen R. Johnson joined a high-level government delegation that showcased investment opportunities totalling more than €1.5 billion. A key focus of the engagements was the role of air connectivity in supporting the “Everything but Arms” initiative, which grants Liberian products duty-free and quota-free access to the European market, with significant implications for the country’s export capacity.
During the forum, the LCAA highlighted the importance of modernised air cargo infrastructure to support proposed Export Processing Facilities in Liberia. The Authority said the certification and regulation of advanced cold-chain and logistics hubs would help connect Liberian producers more efficiently with European consumers.
Discussions also covered sustainable infrastructure development at Roberts International Airport. The LCAA explored potential partnerships around green airport technologies, including renewable energy solutions for airfield lighting and terminal operations, in line with broader global aviation sustainability objectives.
The Authority stated that aviation is a force multiplier for the ARREST Agenda and that, by strengthening the regulatory environment and expanding cargo capacity, Liberia is not only moving aircraft but also enabling Liberian products to reach European markets while attracting international investors.
As a direct outcome of the mission, the LCAA will establish a Post-Forum Task Force to convert the bilateral discussions held in Brussels into tangible technical partnerships. The Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to increasing flight frequencies between Monrovia and European hubs to reduce travel costs and support trade growth.
