The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, accompanied by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk A. Umar, and the General Manager of Surveillance, Engr. Isa Lars, recently completed a technical visit to the headquarters of INVAP S.E. in Bariloche, Argentina. INVAP is a manufacturer of Primary and Secondary Surveillance Radar (PSR/SSR) systems.
The visit included an inspection of INVAP’s production and research facilities. It forms part of the Federal Government’s programme to modernise Nigeria’s air traffic management systems and strengthen surveillance infrastructure through cooperation with international aviation technology providers.
This follows a similar visit in July 2024 to Indra Sistemas in Spain, undertaken by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
During the visit to INVAP, the Nigerian team received briefings on radar solutions, system integration, and support services designed for civil and defence applications. These discussions support Nigeria’s aviation development plans, with reference to ICAO standards and regional objectives.
Engr. Farouk A. Umar reaffirmed NAMA’s focus on implementing advanced surveillance technology to improve airspace safety, operational efficiency, and aircraft tracking within Nigerian and regional airspace.
The engagement with INVAP is a step towards the upgrade of Nigeria’s radar infrastructure. NAMA remains committed to delivering safe and efficient air navigation services in accordance with international requirements.
