Rotortrade: Shifting Landscape of Helicopter Sales

At the end of June, following the release of the Rotortrade Global Helicopter Market Report 2024–2025, Rotortrade CEO Philippe Lubrano shared his insights in an op-ed piece on the shifting landscape of helicopter sales. His analysis focused on key themes such as financing, strategic positioning, and long-term market planning.

As global uncertainty persists and operating costs rise, Rotortrade continues to emphasise long-term readiness and adaptability. The company remains aligned with market demand by maintaining a strong inventory of ready-to-fly aircraft, while also advancing its presence in key regional markets.

According to the op-ed, financing conditions have become more favourable, with improved access to funding at more competitive rates. This shift has made helicopter acquisitions more viable for prepared buyers, especially in a market where cost efficiency and timing are increasingly critical.

Geopolitical developments are playing an influential role in shaping rotorcraft demand. As defence budgets expand across multiple regions, government orders for new helicopters are placing pressure on overall supply, reducing availability for civilian buyers. Lead times for new aircraft have extended to several years, presenting new challenges for operators seeking short- to medium-term fleet growth.

In response, Rotortrade’s strategy centres on availability. The company holds approximately $100 million in aircraft inventory across platforms, including Leonardo, Airbus, and Bell, all maintained in operational condition and supported by in-house MRO capabilities. This approach offers buyers immediate access to aircraft without the wait typically associated with new orders.

Global expansion continues to be a priority. At the Catarina Aviation Show, Rotortrade announced the launch of Rotortrade Brazil, reinforcing its footprint in South America, one of the most active civil aviation markets. Further office openings are planned for Q3 2025, supporting the company’s broader strategy of serving clients closer to their operations.

Rotortrade has positioned itself as an agile global dealership, shaped by customer trust and the ability to respond quickly to market shifts. Over the past 12 years, the company has developed a reputation for reliability, underpinned by a commitment to delivering high-quality aircraft backed by strong support infrastructure.

Looking ahead, the company is expanding its solutions offering to include more integrated options, particularly in leasing and financing. With established MRO and dealership capabilities already in place, Rotortrade is now advancing its financial services to better meet client needs. The introduction of Rotorlease, announced earlier this year at Verticon and expected to become fully operational in the second half of 2025, reflects this direction.

While operating costs across the sector are rising—driven by both acquisition and maintenance expenses—Rotortrade is urging clients to adapt to new pricing realities. The company views disciplined planning as essential for long-term success in a market that evolves gradually rather than through sudden spikes.

In an increasingly complex global environment, Rotortrade continues to prioritise what it sees as the core pillars of its business: trust, availability, and sustained value.

Africa will contribute a significant portion of Rotortrade’s revenues. In 2024, 35% of the company’s business came from the region. The market is looking better, with local operators’ growing professionalism and infrastructure investments in the top economies.
