The European Union, in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization, has mobilised funding under the project entitled Capacity-building for CORSIA-eligible Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). Senegal is among the selected Member States participating in the initiative and is therefore benefiting from a dedicated feasibility study on SAF.

Following the launch workshop held on 15 and 16 September 2025, as well as bilateral meetings and data collection with various stakeholders, the preliminary results of the feasibility study on sustainable aviation fuels in Senegal were recently presented.

The preliminary report highlights Senegal’s potential, notably the availability of multiple SAF feedstocks. These include jatropha oil, neem oil, typha, ethanol, animal fats, cashew apples, maize stalks, horticultural waste and fisheries waste.

Beyond the diversity and availability of these feedstocks, the study points to a strong and dynamic national ecosystem, with an environment conducive to innovation and significant potential for the development of sustainable aviation fuels.

The final report is expected by the end of February.
