TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola is set to advance its fleet modernisation strategy with the backing of a significant financing package from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). The approved funding of approximately USD 297 million will support the acquisition of Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft and engines from General Electric Aerospace.
This investment forms part of TAAG’s broader transformation strategy aimed at modernising its fleet, enhancing operational efficiency, and strengthening the airline’s financial sustainability. The introduction of the new-generation aircraft is expected to deliver several operational benefits, including improved fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, enhanced environmental performance, and greater technical reliability.
The addition of the Boeing 787-10s is seen as a strategic step in expanding TAAG’s route network and increasing service frequencies to key destinations. The modernisation also aligns with efforts to elevate the passenger experience and position TAAG as a competitive airline on the African continent.
The EXIM-backed transaction is also expected to support approximately 1,400 jobs across the United States, particularly in states like South Carolina and Ohio, reflecting the broader economic impact of the aircraft and engine exports through their respective supply chains.
