The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) has announced a strategic partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, the flag carrier of Ethiopia and a member of Star Alliance, further strengthening connectivity between the United States, Africa and global destinations.
Ethiopian Airlines, which currently operates from Terminal 7 at JFK, will transition its New York operations to the New Terminal One when it opens in 2026. The airline will continue to operate services to its Addis Ababa hub, offering one-stop connections across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
The New Terminal One forms part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport into a world-class gateway. The programme includes the development of two new terminals, the modernisation and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation centre and a redesigned roadway network.
Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One at JFK, said the partnership reinforces the airport’s role as a key gateway to Africa and beyond, while enhancing the passenger experience through a modern, next-generation terminal environment.

Mesfin Tasew, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said the partnership represents a significant step in enhancing the airline’s service at JFK, with passengers set to benefit from improved connectivity, convenience and a world-class terminal experience.
The New Terminal One is scheduled to open its first gates in 2026 and will feature advanced technology, modern amenities, expanded retail and dining offerings, and a sustainable design focused on operational efficiency and passenger comfort.
Ethiopian Airlines joins a growing list of international carriers set to operate from the new facility, including Air France, KLM, Etihad, LOT Polish Airlines, Korean Air, EVA Air, Air Serbia, SAS, Neos, Philippine Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air New Zealand, Royal Air Maroc, Air China, China Airlines, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, EGYPTAIR, China Eastern Airlines and Azores Airlines.
