ATNS on Air Navigation Services Procedure Recovery and Regional Growth

On the sidelines of the 57th Annual General Assembly of the African Airlines Association, African Pilot Magazine speaks with Mabitsi Legodi, Head of Business Development at Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS).

Legodi outlines ATNS’s domestic mandate within South Africa, its expanding regional footprint, and the organisation’s progress in stabilising and rebuilding critical air navigation services. The discussion covers ATNS’s role in supporting neighbouring states through unbundled service offerings, recent infrastructure and procedure recovery work in Zambia and Zimbabwe, and progress made in restoring flight procedures at South African airports.

The interview also addresses capacity rebuilding, governance and regulatory independence, the management of instrument flight procedures, and ATNS’s outlook as it works towards full operational capacity by mid-2026.
