Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mozambique Strengthen Transport Cooperation

Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mozambique held trilateral discussions to strengthen transport cooperation, focusing on connectivity, trade, and regional infrastructure development.

During the recently held inaugural National Transport Conference in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mozambique held a trilateral meeting to strengthen cooperation in transport and infrastructure development, with a focus on enhancing connectivity and facilitating cross-border trade.

The meeting reviewed progress on the Ponta Techobanine Deep Sea Port and Heavy Haul Railway Project, which is expected to improve access to the Indian Ocean for Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and the wider SADC region. Botswana and Zimbabwe also assessed ongoing aviation cooperation, including the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, air accident and serious incident investigation frameworks, and updates to the agreement.

Discussions further covered seamless transit facilitation at the Forbes/Machipanda Border and potential collaboration on the Kafue–Lion’s Den railway project.
