Zimbabwe CAA Licenses 27 ZRP Drone Pilots to Boost Surveillance and Enforcement

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has licensed twenty-seven drone pilots from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to strengthen the ZRP’s use of drone technology for surveillance and enforcement.

During the graduation ceremony at ZRP Sports Club, Mkushi Police Academy on 30 July, CAAZ Director General George Mashababe, represented by Senior Flight Operations Inspector Alex Chiduwa, stated that the achievement supports CAAZ’s mandate to ensure remotely piloted aircraft are operated by trained pilots. He noted the added value of having law enforcement officers knowledgeable about the industry they regulate.

Mashababe also acknowledged the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for fostering an enabling environment to grow Zimbabwe’s drone sector. The licensed officers completed the Remotely Piloted Licensing (RPL) course at approved training organisations.
