Airports Company of Zimbabwe Private Limited, represented by CEO Mr T. Gusha, announced a visit to the United Kingdom led by Deputy Minister Hon. J.K. Sacco (MP) and ICAO Council Member Permanent Representative Mr Munyaradzi Waniwa (Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe). The visit forms part of efforts to decarbonise aviation through Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
With support from the United Kingdom via ICAO ACT-SAF, the delegation met with industry leaders, policymakers and innovators, gaining insights into SAF research, production and implementation. The programme included a tour of Rolls-Royce plc’s Production Test Facility and the University of Sheffield’s Energy Innovation Centre.
Zimbabwe has developed a State Action Plan and completed a feasibility study identifying bioethanol as a key SAF feedstock. An ICAO-facilitated SAF Business Implementation Study is nearing completion. The delegation is seeking UK collaboration for project phase support, capacity building, policy framework development and access to the SAF Clearing House.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the President of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, supporting environmental sustainability, national development, socioeconomic growth and energy security through localised solutions.
