Mauritania and Turkey Sign Civil Aviation Cooperation Agreement

On the sidelines of the Global Transport Connectivity Forum 2025, held in Istanbul in June, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Civil Aviation Agency of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Turkey, concerning the promotion of technical cooperation in various fields of civil aviation.

The memorandum was signed by the Mauritanian Director General of the National Civil Aviation Agency, Mr Ngaidé Abdallahi Abbas, and Mr Kemal Yuksek, representing the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Turkey.

The agreement states that Turkey will support Mauritania’s civil aviation sector through training, technical assistance, and the exchange of expertise, with a view to developing a strong strategic partnership between the two countries.

His Excellency, the Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mr Ely Ould Eveirik, participated in the Forum as a keynote speaker, stressing the importance of integrating air, sea, land, and rail transport to strengthen continental logistics. He also underlined the role of unifying regional regulatory frameworks, particularly in civil aviation, to support interoperability and facilitate the movement of people and goods.

He highlighted the country’s existing infrastructure, including five international airports and several domestic airports, positioning Mauritania as a safe and efficient regional air connectivity point.

The Minister reaffirmed that these achievements were made possible thanks to the political and security stability of Mauritania, under the leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. He concluded by reiterating Mauritania’s full commitment to any regional or continental initiative that serves the objectives of African connectivity and integration.
