Savvy Aviation Unveils AI-Powered Anomaly Detection That Augments Expert Engine Analysis

Savvy Aviation, a leader in general aviation (GA) piston engine analysis and the largest team of maintenance experts in the industry, has announced the launch of GADFly, a cutting-edge anomaly detection tool that leverages artificial intelligence to support Savvy’s human-led diagnostics. This new capability is designed to help Savvy’s analysts identify unusual engine behaviour more quickly and precisely, enhancing the expert analysis that sets Savvy apart.

GadFly is currently in use on normally aspirated Cirrus SR22 aircraft, where it screens every flight and flags anomalies in engine and performance data for further review. Importantly, this tool is not a fully autonomous AI system. Every flight flagged by GadFly is reviewed by Savvy’s experienced team of analysts before any findings are shared with aircraft owners.

“About 15,000 new flights are uploaded to the Savvy platform every week,” said Savvy’s founder and CEO Mike Busch, “so obviously we can’t look at all of them. In the past, our analysts only looked at flights that our clients asked us to review. Now with GADFly, we can look at every flight that the AI suggests we look at, and alert clients to issues they didn’t know they had.”

“This is not a ‘set it and forget it’ AI,” said Joe Godfrey, Director of Analysis at Savvy Aviation. “GadFly gives us a heads-up, but our experienced A&Ps are still in the loop. It’s a powerful tool in our diagnostic toolkit to help keep our clients flying safely.”

GadFly adds another layer of insight—amplifying human expertise, not replacing it. It helps Savvy’s analysts spot flight data patterns or anomalies that may otherwise go unnoticed, without compromising the personal, thoughtful analysis clients expect from the Savvy team.

Savvy is actively developing GadFly for additional aircraft models. The goal is to offer this hybrid AI-and-human diagnostic approach to a broader community of general aviation pilots and owners, propelling their mission of using data-driven maintenance and on-condition maintenance to keep aircraft safe, reliable, and legal.
