As part of the Simandou 2040 Program, the President of the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency General Mamadi Doumbouya, visited the expansion site of Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry in early July. The visit formed part of a broader infrastructure inspection tour focused on advancing Guinea’s sustainable socio-economic transformation.
The airport project is central to the third pillar of the Simandou 2040 Program, which addresses infrastructure, transport, and technology. It aims to expand the airport’s capacity to accommodate rising air traffic while aligning with international standards for sustainability and operational performance.
The visit followed the recent decree renaming and restructuring the airport’s managing authority as Société de Gestion des Aéroports de Guinée (SOGEAG), establishing an integrated airport governance framework for the national network.
According to SOGEAG, 95% of the first phase of the airport modernisation has been completed, with delivery expected by September 2025. The works are being executed by the ALBAYRAK Group, which has confirmed adherence to agreed timelines and specifications.
The Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport expansion is seen as a strategic move to enhance Guinea’s global connectivity, marking a significant milestone in the country’s broader infrastructure development agenda.
