The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has inaugurated a 10-member Task Force mandated by President John Dramani Mahama to lead the formation of a national airline for Ghana.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Headquarters, where Hon. The initiative is part of the President’s broader agenda to position Ghana as a strategic aviation hub in West Africa.
Hon. Nikpe pointed to existing infrastructure at Ghana’s national airport currently being utilised by foreign airlines, underscoring the importance of Ghanaians also benefiting from national investments. He reaffirmed Ghana’s advantageous geographical position as the gateway to Africa, urging the nation to capitalise on this to build a strong national airline.
The Task Force is chaired by aviation expert Mr Charles Asare, with Mr Twumasi-Ankra Selby as Vice Chairman. The other members are Madam Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Rev. Stephen Arthur, Mrs Yvonne Opare, Mr Ellis Hugh-Tamakloe, Mr Benjamin Ahlijah, Madam Patience Bonsu, Mr Daniel Acquah, and Mr Eric Tetteh-Addison, who serves as Secretary.
The Minister also highlighted the government’s broader vision to transform Ghana into a major transport hub across air, sea, and land, with the goal of enhancing regional and global connectivity. The Task Force, he said, plays a critical role in turning this vision into reality.
Chairman Mr Charles Asare, speaking on behalf of the Task Force, expressed the team’s commitment to developing a comprehensive and viable business model to ensure the successful revival of Ghana’s national airline.
