Zimbabwe Marks 26 Years of the Yamoussoukro Decision

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) marked the 26th Anniversary of Yamoussoukro Decision Day on 14 November 2025, highlighting Zimbabwe’s continued commitment to air transport liberalisation under the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Speaking at the ICAN2025 negotiations in Harare, Secretary for Transport and Infrastructural Development Eng Pedzisayi J. Makumbe noted that Zimbabwe’s 2022 commitment to the Single African Air Transport Market has already driven growth in airline traffic and airport utilisation. She also referenced planned investments, including a new airport for Mutare and the upgrade of Charles Prince Airport.

Eng Makumbe participated in a high-level panel with ICAO President Salvatore Sciacchitano and African aviation ministers, emphasising the need for greater regional cooperation. CAAZ reported active progress in reviewing Air Services Agreements to remove market access barriers, with more than five agreements expected to be concluded at ICAN2025. The Authority thanked Government and industry stakeholders for supporting the operationalisation of SAATM and reaffirmed the shared goal of promoting open, inclusive and integrated African skies.
