- The MAD 15 billion project will increase the airport’s capacity by 20 million passengers per year, bringing total capacity to 35 million.
- The terminal will be commissioned in 2029 and feature advanced sustainability standards, digitalised passenger flows, and a high-speed rail link to Rabat and Marrakech.
- The terminal will feature integrated high-speed rail (TGV), linking Casablanca Airport to Rabat in 30 minutes and Marrakech in under an hour.
The construction of the future terminal at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca has reached a critical milestone with the official commencement of earthworks, marking the first major on-site phase of a strategic project that aims to transform Casablanca into a world-class air hub.
The project is now becoming a reality. Mohammed V Airport, Morocco’s primary air gateway, has entered a new era. Earthworks for the new terminal have begun, signalling a tangible step forward for one of the Kingdom’s most ambitious infrastructure projects in the lead-up to 2030.
With a total investment estimated at MAD 15 billion, the new terminal is designed to accommodate an additional 20 million passengers annually, raising the airport’s overall capacity to 35 million. This large-scale transformation aligns with the national “Airports 2030” strategy, led by the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA), which prioritises innovation, sustainability, and connectivity.
Following a public tender process, the earthworks contract was awarded to STAM, a recognised national contractor. The work will continue for eight months and represents a key preparatory phase ahead of the terminal’s planned commissioning in 2029. This physical phase of the project follows several months of architectural and technical studies carried out by the international consortium of Ala Concept, RSHP Architects, and Egis Bâtiments International—firms behind globally acclaimed airport terminals in London, Madrid, and Geneva.
The future terminal will embody Morocco’s vision of full integration with global economic and tourism flows. As a genuine intercontinental hub, Casablanca will strengthen its strategic position between Europe, Africa, and the Americas, while supporting the growth trajectory of Royal Air Maroc.
Designed as a next-generation terminal, it will feature a seamless and digitalised passenger experience, high standards of energy performance, enhanced climate resilience, and an integrated high-speed rail (TGV) station, linking the airport to Rabat in 30 minutes and Marrakech in under an hour.
To ensure the highest standards of execution, a prior Call for Expressions of Interest (AMI) was launched to identify the most qualified contractors. This process closed at the end of May 2025 and attracted proposals from 27 Moroccan and international consortia with proven expertise in complex airport infrastructure. The competitive bidding process for the terminal’s construction will commence in July, with contract awards expected before year-end.
With the launch of earthworks, ONDA is propelling the “Airports 2030” strategy to the heart of Morocco’s national ambitions. Casablanca is asserting itself as an essential aviation hub—ready to welcome the world and proudly represent Morocco during the 2030 World Cup, ushering in a new era of connectivity, growth, and international prominence.
