Lomé Airport Surpasses 2025 Passenger Target Ahead of Schedule
Lomé’s Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE) in Togo recorded 1,506,946 passengers in 2024, surpassing the government’s 2025 target of 1.5 million a year ahead of schedule. To build on this momentum, the government plans to expand the airport’s infrastructure to enhance capacity, streamline operations, and meet international safety standards, reinforcing Lomé’s role as a growing regional aviation hub.
AFRAA welcomes Skyward Airlines as the newest member of the Association
AFRAA has welcomed Kenya’s Skyward Airlines as its newest member. During a visit to the airline’s Nairobi head office, AFRAA Secretary General Abderahmane Berthé presented the membership certificate and discussed regional industry developments with Chairman Capt. Mohammed Abdi and General Manager Ms Diana Nyambura. Founded in 2013, Skyward Airlines operates from Wilson Airport and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, serving 11 destinations and playing a key role in regional connectivity. The airline plans to expand its network further across Eastern Africa.
Update: Polokwane International Airport Instrument Approach Procedure Operational
Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Limited wishes to advise of the immediate reinstatement of the instrument approach procedure for Polokwane International Airport. This critical flight procedure is now fully operational. On Tuesday, 8 April 2025, the flight procedure for Polokwane International Airport was among those that received exemption approval from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). ATNS is working on the maintenance of flight procedures for Bram Fischer, Upington, and Richards Bay airports, with expected submission to SACAA by 30 April 2025. Once the procedures are approved, an Alternative Means of Compliance (AMOC) application will be submitted to allow for the use of the approved procedures while the publication process takes place. ATNS remains committed to ensuring the highest standard of safety and efficiency in air navigation. We will continue to keep all stakeholders informed about the progress of our Flight Procedure Maintenance Programme.
