Akanu Ibiam International Airport Receives NCAA Aerodrome Certification

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has issued an Aerodrome Certification for Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

The certificate was presented at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja following the airport’s compliance with national and international aviation safety and operational standards.

According to the NCAA, the certification followed a five-phase evaluation process covering airport infrastructure, airside and landside operations, safety management systems, emergency preparedness and personnel training. The authority said the process aligned with International Civil Aviation Organization requirements.

FAAN said the certification was a positive development for Nigeria’s aviation sector and acknowledged the role of NCAA officials, FAAN technical teams and industry stakeholders in the process.

The agency added that it would continue to uphold regulatory compliance while investing in infrastructure upgrades and improved service delivery across its airport network.

The Enugu State Government said the certification would strengthen the airport’s credibility with international airlines and aviation bodies, while supporting plans to position Enugu as a major aviation hub and attract new international routes.

An Aerodrome Certificate confirms that an airport meets the required safety, operational and infrastructure standards to receive aircraft and passengers, in line with ICAO Annex 14.
