Construction of the new Cabinda International Airport is progressing, with the Provincial Government of Cabinda describing the project as one of the province’s important strategic infrastructure developments.
The airport is being developed to strengthen Cabinda’s air connectivity with the rest of Angola and international markets, with the project including a passenger terminal, control tower, fire station, cargo terminal and ground equipment support building.
These facilities are intended to provide the airport with the infrastructure required for modern passenger, cargo and operational activities.
The airport will have a runway measuring 3,500m in length and 60m in width. The infrastructure is being designed to accommodate large aircraft, with the Boeing 777 identified as the critical aircraft for the project.
According to the project schedule cited by the Provincial Government of Cabinda, an experimental flight is planned for 2027.
The project is also supporting a substantial local workforce. A total of 1,713 people are currently employed on the development, including 1,666 Angolan nationals. Of these, 1,403 are from Cabinda Province.
The Provincial Government said the level of local participation reflects the project’s contribution to employment and skills involvement within the province.
Beyond the airport infrastructure itself, the development is intended to improve the movement of passengers and goods and strengthen Cabinda’s connectivity and economic links.
The project remains in the construction phase, with the planned 2027 experimental flight representing the next major milestone identified in the source.
