Airports of Mauritius Ltd is progressing procurement and specialist appointments for the Rodrigues Airport Project, with the latest plan showing the main runway works package under implementation and further technical support scheduled to enter procurement.
The World Bank-financed project, P180266, is being implemented under IBRD Loan 95910. The original procurement plan was approved in September 2024, with the latest revision dated 17 August 2026.
The principal infrastructure package covers construction of the runway and associated infrastructure. Valued at an estimated US$166.04 million, the contract is being procured through an open international Request for Bids using a single-stage, two-envelope process and is subject to World Bank prior review.
The revised plan records the package as under implementation. The Specific Procurement Notice was issued on 8 January 2026, while proposal submission and opening took place on 3 June 2026.
Attention is also shifting to the technical resources required to support delivery of the infrastructure programme.
Recruitment of an Airfield Construction Specialist is under implementation through an international individual consultant selection process. The appointment is valued at US$240,000 and is scheduled to run through to August 2028.
A separate Safety and Health Specialist appointment, valued at US$91,200, is also under implementation, with the planned assignment extending to January 2027.
Further project support is due to follow from September 2026.
The procurement plan provides for the appointment of a Geological Specialist Peer Reviewer for construction of the new runway and associated facilities at Plaine Corail Airport. The international consultancy is estimated at US$170,000, with procurement planned to begin on 4 September 2026. The programme provides for contract signing in February 2027 and completion in October 2029.
A Procurement Assistant is also scheduled to enter procurement in September. The national consultancy, valued at US$96,000, forms part of the project's technical assistance programme and is planned to continue through October 2029.
Several earlier project implementation appointments have already progressed, including the Project Manager, Water Specialist, Tourism Specialist, Financial Specialist, Accountant, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, Fisheries Specialist and Internal Auditor.
The August 2026 revision shows the Rodrigues Airport Project moving from its earlier planning and project-team establishment phase into a more active delivery period. The main runway procurement is progressing, construction-support expertise is being brought into the programme, and additional specialist appointments are scheduled to follow as implementation develops.
