Rolls-Royce has won an order from Avolon for 70 Trent 7000 engines to power 35 Airbus A330neo aircraft. The Trent 7000 is the exclusive engine for the A330neo.
Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer at Rolls-Royce, said the order, Avolon’s latest for Airbus A330-900s, reflects Avolon’s continued trust and partnership in the Trent 7000 programme. He described Avolon as an important customer and long-standing supporter of the aircraft and engine combination, which he said forms a large part of its widebody fleet.
Will Pitcher, Head of Powerplant Strategy & Asset Solutions at Avolon, said the A330neo remains one of the most capable and efficient widebody aircraft in the market and that, powered by the Trent 7000, it offers Avolon’s airline customers fuel efficiency, operational reliability and range. He said the order strengthens Avolon’s ability to support customers’ fleet renewal and growth plans over the coming decade.
Rolls-Royce says the A330neo and Trent 7000 combination delivers 14% better fuel burn per seat than the previous generation. The Trent 7000 is the latest member of the Trent family and is based on Trent XWB technology, and the company says it has more than five million flying hours.
The engine is certified to operate on a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend, and Rolls-Royce says it has been proven compatible with up to 100% SAF.
