voestalpine's High Performance Metals Division has secured orders in the aerospace sector worth around EUR 1 billion over the next five years, the largest order volume in the division's history. Airbus was among the customers included in the agreement, which covers high-performance materials, complex forged parts and global logistics services.
Production will take place at voestalpine's Styrian sites in Kapfenberg and Mürzzuschlag, Austria, as well as at its Brazilian subsidiary Villares Metals in Sumaré. The division supplies nickel-based alloys and forged parts for engines and landing gear used on common passenger aircraft, including the Airbus A320, A330 and A350 families – aircraft types that make up a significant share of African airlines' narrowbody and widebody fleets.
voestalpine produces high-performance materials for the aerospace industry in the form of bars, sections, sheets and plates, as well as special forged parts that are largely ready-to-install in the fuselage, engine and landing gear. The company says these products are designed to withstand large temperature fluctuations, rotational forces and heavy mechanical loads.
The orders come amid rising demand for short- and medium-haul aircraft, which the company says continues to drive growth in the aerospace segment. Global logistics for the orders will be coordinated through voestalpine's distribution network, with sites in Kapfenberg, Birmingham, Chicago, Toronto, Shanghai and Chennai.
voestalpine AG CEO Herbert Eibensteiner said the orders reflected the company's role in the industry. "These major orders signal our innovative strength and role as strategic partner to aerospace industry," he said.
Reinhard Nöbauer, a member of voestalpine AG's management board and head of the High Performance Metals Division, said the orders reflected the division's approach to its customers. "These orders underscore our customer focus and comprehensive range of services offered by our division," he said.
