The Government of Cabo Verde has held discussions with Swiss company Moov over a potential strategic partnership involving the country’s civil aviation sector and national carrier TACV – Cabo Verde Airlines.
Prime Minister Francisco Carvalho and Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs João do Carmo met representatives of Moov on 11 August after the company expressed interest in Cabo Verde’s civil aviation sector, with particular focus on TACV.
The meeting allowed the Government to consider Moov’s strategic vision for the sector and its proposals for the future of TACV within the company’s Atlantic Gateway project.
According to João do Carmo, Moov presented a phased, long-term strategy in which the stabilisation of TACV would be the first priority.
The minister said any potential solution would have to safeguard Cabo Verde’s national interests and those of Cabo Verdeans, describing this as a fundamental principle of the Government’s approach to transport.
Moov also expressed strong interest in continuing discussions with the Government, creating the basis for further engagement and possible cooperation in civil aviation.
The Government intends to continue identifying and evaluating potential strategic partners for the sector, with the stabilisation and strengthening of TACV among its priorities. It also aims to create conditions for a more sustainable and competitive civil aviation sector capable of meeting Cabo Verde’s connectivity requirements.
João do Carmo described the meeting with Moov as positive and confirmed that discussions would continue. A visit to Switzerland is planned to deepen the engagement and provide the Government with an opportunity to learn more about the company as it considers a potential partnership.
Headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland, Moov is developing the Atlantic Gateway project, an intercontinental air network intended to strengthen connections between Europe, Africa and Latin America.
The company’s plans envisage Cabo Verde forming part of that wider international connectivity strategy, with a particular focus on regional air links and premium-segment travel.
