Continental Aerospace Technologies™ announces continued progress on the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) development for the CD-300 engine installation on the Cessna 206. In collaboration with FTI Engineering Network GmbH (FTI), the program has reached a key milestone with the successful completion of its first tests, displaying a significant step toward bringing Jet-A-powered performance to this widely used aircraft platform. The next phase of flight testing is planned for later this summer, with STC approval targeted for 2027.
The recent first tests by FTI were a significant advancement in the integration and certification process of the CD-300 for the Cessna 206. Continental® and FTI continue to collaborate on development, testing, and validation to achieve STC approval, with a shared goal of delivering a reliable and streamlined solution for Cessna 206 operators.
Dr. David Dörner, Vice President of Global Research & Development at Continental® said, “The progress we are seeing with the CD-300 integration into the Cessna 206 illustrates the strength of our collaboration with FTI and our devotion to expanding Jet-A solutions across proven airframes,”. “This milestone brings us one step closer to providing operators with a modern engine solution that enhances both performance and efficiency.”
The Continental® CD-300 engine combines high power output, fuel efficiency, and reliability through its advanced design. The 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine features full authority digital engine control (FADEC) and direct fuel injection, enabling optimised performance, simplified operation, and precise engine management. Designed to operate on widely available Jet-A fuel, the CD-300 delivers 300 horsepower while offering improved fuel efficiency. These characteristics support lower operating costs, extended range, and consistent performance across diverse operating environments, making it well-suited for utility, training, and commercial applications.
Continental’s ongoing collaboration with FTI continues to be committed to delivering innovative propulsion solutions that increase aircraft capability and operator value. The CD-300-powered Cessna 206 offers increased efficiency, accessibility, and performance for one of general aviation’s most versatile aircraft.
