Ethiopian Airlines will resume daily passenger services between Addis Ababa and Durban from 11 December 2026, returning Durban to its South African network alongside Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The airline said the service will support connectivity as well as business, tourism and trade links between South Africa and destinations served through its Addis Ababa hub.
Flight ET889 is scheduled to depart Addis Ababa at 08:35 and arrive in Durban at 13:25. The return service, ET888, is scheduled to depart Durban at 14:15 and arrive in Addis Ababa at 21:00.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the airline sees potential to strengthen trade, tourism and business links between South Africa and its wider network through Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian began serving Johannesburg in 1993 and added Cape Town in 2015. Durban will again become its third destination in South Africa when the daily service resumes.
