Tanzania Grounds All Tanzanian-Registered Helicopter Operations Pending Recertification

The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has suspended all operations of Tanzanian-registered helicopters effective 8 May 2025, pending a full recertification process to ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards.

In a directive issued on 8 May 2025, the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) announced the immediate suspension of all operations involving Tanzanian-registered helicopters. The decision, communicated through an All Operators Letter (AOL Ref: TCAA/AOL/2024/08), follows identified discrepancies in compliance with the Civil Aviation (Air Operator Certification and Administration) Regulations, 2017 (as amended).

According to the Authority, all helicopter operators are now required to undergo a recertification process. The TCAA is in the advanced stages of appointing qualified helicopter inspectors to facilitate this process. The suspension is mandatory and includes the halting of all flight bookings until further notice. Operators are also required to submit updated operational manuals for review as part of the recertification process.
