Togo has introduced a visa exemption for nationals of African States holding a valid national passport, effective Monday, 18 May 2026.
The Ministry of Security announced the measure in a communiqué issued in Lomé and follows a decision taken by the President of the Council. It applies to entry into Togolese territory and is valid for a maximum period of thirty days.
According to the Ministry, the decision reflects Togo’s commitment to promoting African integration, strengthening the free movement of people and goods, and supporting greater cooperation between the States and peoples of the continent.
The Ministry said the measure forms part of Togo’s wider drive for openness, modernisation and attractiveness, with the ambition of positioning the country as a regional hub for services, business, culture and human exchange at the heart of Africa.
While the exemption removes the requirement for an entry visa for eligible African nationals, travellers remain subject to the security, immigration and public health requirements applicable on entry into Togo.
Prior registration on the dedicated government platform also remains mandatory. Travellers concerned must complete their travel declaration on https://voyage.gouv.tg at least twenty-four hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel authorisation slip to be presented at border posts. The Ministry described the slip as a prior administrative and security formality.
The Ministry also noted that the visa exemption does not prevent the application of legal and regulatory provisions relating to irregular entry, unlawful stay, administrative policing and national security.
Competent administrations and services have been instructed to take all necessary measures to ensure the implementation of the provision at all land, air and maritime points of entry.
The communiqué was signed in Lomé by Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, Minister of Security.
