The Governments of Zambia and the Kingdom of Eswatini have reaffirmed their commitment to regional integration, trade, and economic growth with the official launch of a direct flight between Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka and King Mswati III International Airport in Eswatini.

Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Frank Tayali, described the new route as a transformative step in positioning Zambia as a regional aviation hub and enhancing connectivity within Southern Africa. He noted that the route forms part of broader efforts to strengthen air connectivity across the region.

He further highlighted that the direct link is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency by reducing reliance on indirect routes through third countries, while supporting trade, tourism, and investment between Zambia and Eswatini. He also reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting the aviation sector through infrastructure development, progressive policies, and strategic partnerships.

The Minister underscored the importance of cargo development, noting the untapped potential in cargo movement between the two countries and calling on stakeholders to pursue opportunities that could unlock additional trade benefits.

Eswatini’s Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, described the launch as a significant milestone reflecting strong bilateral relations and a shared commitment to regional connectivity. He noted that the Lusaka route forms part of Eswatini Air’s network expansion strategy and supports efforts to drive economic growth, facilitate trade, and strengthen regional integration.

He further emphasised the role of aviation as a strategic enabler of national development, supporting tourism, investment, and job creation.

Also speaking at the event, Eswatini Air Board Chairperson, Dr Wisdom Dlamini, commended the Zambian Government for its leadership and support in facilitating the route, including the granting of key aviation freedoms, which enabled the launch of the service.

The launch of the Lusaka–Manzini route aligns with continental frameworks such as the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), both aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic integration across Africa.

The new service is expected to increase passenger traffic, promote tourism, and stimulate trade between Zambia and Eswatini, while reinforcing Zambia’s position as a regional gateway for travel.

Both governments have also reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration to support the sustainability and future expansion of the route, including opportunities in both passenger and cargo services.
