ACSA and Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality Sign MoU to Advance Development at Bram Fischer International Airport

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) formalised a strategic partnership on 16 March 2026 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at Bram Fischer International Airport to strengthen regional collaboration and support economic development in the Free State.

The agreement establishes a framework for coordinated planning and cooperation to advance development initiatives within the airport precinct, while supporting priorities including economic growth, skills development, infrastructure, tourism and investment attraction. The partnership aims to strengthen the airport’s role as a catalyst for regional development and position the precinct as a hub for aviation-related activity, logistics, tourism and commercial investment, aligned with ACSA’s airport city and aerotropolis development priority.

Key focus areas include economic growth and investment attraction, skills development, infrastructure development, tourism promotion, logistics and cargo development, and aerotropolis and urban development.

ACSA and the MMM stated that the partnership aligns development planning and supports sustainable growth, integrating airport expansion with the city’s long-term economic and spatial strategies. The agreement provides a framework to unlock investment opportunities, support logistics precinct development, expand cargo capabilities and strengthen regional value chains.

The MoU establishes a platform for implementing joint initiatives to enhance the strategic value of Bram Fischer International Airport as a regional gateway, with both entities emphasising sustained collaboration, coordinated planning and the delivery of socio-economic benefits for Mangaung and the Free State.
