The Republic of Angola and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria have taken an important step in strengthening bilateral relations, with the signing of new legal instruments in the field of transport and civil aviation.
Among the instruments, the new Bilateral Agreement on Air Services, signed by the Angolan Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, stands out, replacing the agreement previously in force since 1976. The update of the legal framework responds to the current demand of international civil aviation, with the focus on operational safety, regulatory modernisation, facilitation of air transport and dynamisation of the aeronautical market between the two countries.
During the same event, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the National Civil Aviation Authority of Angola (ANAC), Amélia Domingues Kuvíngua, signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Aeronautical Authorities of Angola and Algeria, an instrument that establishes mechanisms for technical and institutional cooperation in the areas of regulation, supervision and development of civil aviation.
The Memorandum creates a more favourable operational basis for the establishment of new air links, promoting the strengthening of connectivity between the North and South of the African continent, as well as the increase in the flow of passengers, goods and investment opportunities between the two regions.
The initiative also reinforces Luanda’s strategic positioning as a platform connecting the Maghreb and Southern Africa, enhancing the role of the new Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport as a regional hub of reference for logistics and air transport operations on the African continent.
With the signing of these instruments, Angola and Algeria inaugurate a new stage of institutional cooperation and air integration, aligned with the challenges, priorities and opportunities of modern aviation in Africa, contributing to greater connectivity, economic development and rapprochement between peoples.
