German leisure airline Condor says it is resuming its nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Windhoek, citing strong demand for travel to Namibia from the German market.

The Frankfurt-Windhoek route was first introduced in 2014 but was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline said Namibia has remained a popular long-haul holiday destination for German travellers, prompting the decision to restore the service.

According to Veronika Meyer, Condor’s Spokesperson and Communications Manager, the expansion has been made possible by the growth of the airline’s Airbus A330neo fleet, which has provided additional long-haul capacity to align its network with customer demand and further develop its long-haul offering.

Meyer said the new nonstop service is aimed primarily at leisure travellers while also offering tour operators an additional option for travel between Germany and Namibia. She added that Condor’s expanded European city network, launched last year and now linking Frankfurt with 13 major European cities, also improves onward connections for passengers travelling to and from Namibia, including business travellers.

The Frankfurt-Windhoek service will be operated using an Airbus A330neo configured with 310 seats across Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class. Meyer said passengers will benefit from enhanced travel comfort, an upgraded inflight entertainment system and the airline’s onboard service.

The resumption strengthens air connectivity between Namibia and Germany, one of Namibia’s key international tourism source markets.

Condor currently operates flights from Frankfurt to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Mombasa, as well as to the island destinations of Mauritius and Zanzibar. The Seychelles also forms part of the airline’s winter schedule between November and April.

The new route will be operated three times per week from the end of June, with departures from Frankfurt on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Return flights from Windhoek will operate the following day, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. With Windhoek, a destination returns to the Condor network that was part of the airline’s route portfolio for around seven years from November 2014.

Namibia has long been one of the most sought-after long-haul destinations for German holidaymakers. According to the Tourist Arrival Statistical Report for 2025, of the close to 300 000 overseas tourists that visited Namibia in 2025, 80 600 of them were German tourists.

In terms of air travel, Hosea Kutako International Airport on the outskirts of Windhoek accounted for 8.4% of tourist arrivals in 2025, down from 8.9% in 2024, while Walvis Bay International Airport declined marginally from 8.1% to 7.9%.

Also in Windhoek, Eros Airport’s contribution declined from 1.0% to 0.8%, while arrivals through other airports dropped from 1.3% to 0.5%.
