Airport infrastructure and air-navigation projects at Mbuji-Mayi and Kindu remain under execution under the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Priority Aviation Safety Project Phase II, according to an updated procurement plan approved on 29 September 2026.
At Mbuji-Mayi National Airport, a contract covering construction of a control tower and technical block, electrical power plant, fire station and associated facilities is listed as signed and under execution. The contract value is US$8.08 million.
A second Mbuji-Mayi works contract, valued at US$26.83 million, covers runway strengthening and extension with airfield lighting, strengthening and extension of the apron, taxiway works, ground lighting and erosion-control and drainage works. The contract is also listed as signed and under execution.
The airport’s navigation and control infrastructure is being addressed through additional contracts. A US$1.94 million contract for the supply and installation of an ILS/DME remains under execution, while a US$867,345 contract covers equipment for the Mbuji-Mayi control tower.
Kindu National Airport also has two works contracts under execution.
A US$9.19 million contract covers rehabilitation of the airport’s runway, apron and taxiway pavements together with associated lighting. A second contract, valued at US$7.72 million, includes the rehabilitation and equipping of the control tower and technical block, construction and equipping of a new electrical power plant and fire station, associated facilities, and runway rehabilitation.
The procurement plan also records the completion of rehabilitation work at Kisangani/Bangoka International Airport. The US$21.54 million contract covered rehabilitation of the runway, strengthening and extension of the apron, taxiway works, lighting and ground markings and is listed as signed and executed.
Separate air-navigation equipment packages include the supply and installation of six DVOR/DME stations, a US$5.50 million contract listed as executed, and the supply and installation of eight VHF radio chains and control-tower equipment. The latter contract is valued at US$3.86 million and remains under execution.
The programme also includes a number of consultancy and training packages.
A consultancy for the preparation of a Civil Aviation Master Plan is listed with an estimated cost of 710,000 units of account and is marked as not yet launched.
A separate consultancy covering preliminary and detailed design studies for the rehabilitation of Régie des Voies Aériennes airports across the DRC has an estimated cost of 569,448 units of account and is also listed as not yet launched.
Training packages for personnel from Régie des Voies Aériennes and the civil aviation authority are in procurement. These include training at ASECNA institutions ERNAM, EAMAC and ERSI, as well as at ENAC.
The procurement plan covers the period from 1 January to 31 December 2026.
