The State Executive Council approved the sum of ₦340,612,472.69 for the construction of a 1km access road from the threshold of Runway 21 to the CVOR navigation aid site at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti, as part of measures to address outstanding infrastructure and operational requirements necessary for the facility to obtain full operational approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The project is considered necessary to replace the existing earth access road, which is susceptible to erosion and becomes difficult to access during the rainy season. The new access road will provide all-weather vehicular access to the CVOR site, facilitate emergency response and routine maintenance, improve surveillance and security of the navigation aid facility, reduce the risk of vandalism and unauthorised access, and provide a permanent service corridor for future upgrades, expansion or replacement of navigation equipment.
The Council approved the award of the contract to CCECC Nigeria Limited under the Direct Procurement Method, in view of the urgency and technical requirements of the project, as well as the contractor’s proven track record.
The project is expected to be completed within three months and underscores the Administration’s commitment to completing critical aviation infrastructure, enhancing flight safety and security, and facilitating the operational readiness of the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.
