Guinea’s Ministry of Transport has officially received a first consignment of airport support vehicles and mobile equipment for the regional aerodromes of Kankan and Labé, which are currently being reconstructed. The handover took place on 8 May 2026 at the Ministry, under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Mr Mohamed Bakayoko, representing the Minister of Transport and Government Spokesperson, Mr Ousmane Gaoual Diallo.

The equipment includes pickups, SUV vehicles, buses and firefighting trucks. These assets are intended to strengthen the operational, logistical, safety, security and emergency response capacity of the future regional airport platforms. Their deployment is also expected to support user mobility and improve the readiness of technical teams ahead of the aerodromes’ commissioning.

The Ministry emphasised that the works at Kankan and Labé amount to a full reconstruction of airport infrastructure, rather than a simple renovation as initially envisaged. According to the Ministry, the projects are at a very advanced stage of implementation, despite some financial constraints, and their forthcoming commissioning is expected to support local populations, institutions and economic actors in regions with strong agropastoral potential.

The project forms part of Guinea’s wider effort to modernise its national air transport network and improve domestic connectivity. Mr Bakayoko linked the reconstruction and equipping of regional airport platforms to the SIMANDOU 2040 programme, particularly its third pillar, which focuses on infrastructure, technology and transport.

The Ministry also highlighted the role of its partner, The Mining House, in supporting the delivery of the infrastructure in line with the required technical specifications. Mr Mahmoud Akrah, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Mining House, described the handover as a concrete step in the transformation of Guinea’s regional airports, stating that the delivery represents real progress for Kankan and Labé rather than a symbolic gesture.
