On 10th March 2025, Kenya Airways marked a milestone in its cargo operations with the introduction of a Boeing 747 freighter into its network under a capacity purchase agreement, strengthening its ability to support trade between Africa and the Middle East.
The newly deployed aircraft operated a high-capacity cargo movement between Sharjah and Kenya, transporting nearly 100 tonnes of inbound cargo into Africa. On the return leg, the freighter uplifted over 110 tonnes of exports from Kenya to the United Arab Emirates, with a strong focus on perishables such as fresh produce.
The operation comes at a time when global logistics networks are experiencing disruption due to ongoing geopolitical challenges in parts of the region. By introducing the B747 freighter, Kenya Airways was able to facilitate the movement of delayed and high-priority cargo, ensuring continuity for businesses relying on timely deliveries.

The additional capacity is part of a broader strategy to reinforce the airline’s cargo capabilities and meet growing demand from exporters, freight forwarders, and regional businesses. The move is expected to enhance the efficiency and reliability of cargo flows, particularly for time-sensitive goods destined for international markets.
This latest development underscores Kenya Airways’ commitment to positioning KQ Cargo as a key enabler of trade across Africa, while providing Kenyan exporters with more consistent and dependable access to global supply chains.
As the airline continues to expand its freighter operations, it aims to play an even greater role in supporting economic growth by connecting African goods to the world.
