South Africa Invites Applications for Civil Aviation Appeal Committee Appointments

The South African Minister of Transport invites members of the public to apply or nominate suitable persons for appointment to the Civil Aviation Appeal Committee.

The Civil Aviation Appeal Committee is a statutory body constituted in terms of Section 122 of the Civil Aviation Act 2009 (Act No. 13 of 2009), as amended by the Civil Aviation Amendment Act No. 22 of 2021. It is mandated to consider appeals lodged against decisions taken by the Commissioner for Civil Aviation in terms of Section 120(2) of the Act.

The Committee consists of a Chairperson, who must have not less than 10 years’ experience as an attorney or advocate, and members who possess suitable technical knowledge and experience in a field related to aviation, or relevant skills, qualifications, expertise or experience in matters concerning aviation. In addition, candidates are required to have knowledge of aviation management and International Civil Aviation Organization Annexes, as well as all applicable conventions. Candidates must be of professional standing and possess suitable and recognised qualifications.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a part-time basis for a period of three years. Remuneration will be based on preparation for and attendance at meetings, in accordance with applicable National Treasury Regulations.

Note: Any appointed member who holds any post or office in or under any government entity, administration or department, or in or under any institution or body that is wholly or partially funded by the State, is not entitled to any payment in respect of duties performed as a member of the Civil Aviation Appeal Committee.
