The South African Department of Transport has published a Government Gazette notice confirming revised airport charges to be levied by Airports Company South Africa Limited (ACSA), effective from 1 April 2026. The charges are issued in terms of the Airports Company Act, 1993, following permission granted under section 12 of the Act.

The notice confirms that airport charges are payable by aircraft operators and comprise landing charges, parking charges, and passenger service charges. Landing charges are determined by an aircraft’s maximum certificated take-off weight and are differentiated according to whether the flight originates within South Africa, from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia or Eswatini, or from other international territories.

Parking charges apply once an aircraft has been parked at an ACSA airport for more than four hours and are calculated per 24-hour period or part thereof, with higher charges applicable when parking bays with passenger loading bridges are used.

Passenger service charges are calculated per embarking passenger, excluding passengers who remain on board during a stopover and children under the age of two.

The notice also sets out detailed notification, payment, and data submission requirements for aircraft operators, including obligations to provide accurate operational data, passenger numbers, freight and mail weights, aircraft configuration details, and maximum take-off weights. Failure to provide required data may result in ACSA assessing charges based on maximum aircraft capacity.

Certain exemptions are confirmed, including flights conducted for air navigation calibration, search and rescue operations, and specific test flights required by the civil aviation authority. Reduced landing charges apply to helicopter operations, aircrew training flights, and military training flights, subject to defined conditions.
